It's a good knife. It's no different than the Knifeworks offerings other than different scales and different blade etching.

If you're asking if it's worth the money, in reality, no. If you're only interest in Benchmade knives is the Ares design, then yes. I'm in the second camp. My only real passion for Benchmades lies in this pattern.

My only reason to buy "2nd Russian" Ares was if I already have 25 others then I have to have the new one. Yes, I am trying to find all Areses.
But to be honest - think twice before pay the price of two KW's limiteds (730-1202 + 730-1203) for that one. Great Ares for sure, and nothing special except blue stripes in G10. Comparing all three 2012's I like Black 1202 best.
Also I do not get why you guys all are so excited about M390. I still prefer old-school 154CM.

I'm in the same boat as mhasman, and will pay a stupid amount of money for any Ares variants. I've kicked myself many times over for not picking up certain Ares in the past, and vowed to never make that mistake again.

I was lucky to get matching numbers on the Knifeworks knives. When I saw Rolan's post about the remaining Russian Ares-2, it looks like #27 was still available. If I could, I would buy that one too just to have all the #27's together. But I'm not complaining, it was by stroke of luck and mhasman's dedication that I was able to add the Russian Ares-2 to the stable. I like it even better than the original Russian Basselard Ares.

    Here's my three '2012' Ares all together: 730-1201(Russian), 730-1202, 730BK-1203:

As has been said many times over "something is only worth how much someone is willing to pay for it". I am also an Ares fanatic. By the time I was able to appreciate and afford the beautiful design and function they were out of production. I'm just now making up time. I have this year picked up: 730HS-CF, 2 730 Burg and black, 2 730-1202, 2 730-1203, 735 knife of the month and of course the recent 730-1201 which mhasman was so gracious to help agony and myself procure. Was it worth it? It was to me and it seems agony also. Anyone have a 730-M4 for sale?

For comparison's sake, here's the first Russian Basselard Ares. Note the 154CM blade, and the different laser etching. I like the way BM did the new Russian's etching much better.
And for the record, I paid even more for the first Russian Ares than I did the new one.

And the only other Ares with the 'Gold Class' style Benchmade logo is, well, the Gold Class Ares 730-101:

Wow, I'm so slow on the keyboard that mhasman and agony got their messages in before I finished. Great pics agony. I have matching number 02&03's also(along with the same number 520&525's).
Mhasman, I prefer the m390 because it holds an edge longer than my 154's.

My gosh it is good looking.

I put the satin M390 in the Coyote Leopold LE scales, but it looked kind of bland. Plus, that coyote G10 is just paint and wears off easy. I think I'll change it back and put the satin in the green black G10 handles.

But I do appreciate that blue black G10 with satin pe!

Knives for shoes, thanks for the info on the painted g-10. I was looking at getting one and am glad to know about the paint job. Thanks again.

Yeah, I don't like that the Leupold tan Ares is painted, but the pattern is cool looking. I think the paint-job on the tan Adamas is more durable.

    Smiler
    .
but can not say now the price in Basselard.

My wife made it clear that if I actually buy one of these knives she will cut my balls off and then invite her Mom to come to town and spend aweek at our home. I don't know which is worse.
(Some of you may remember the in-laws thread
I started a few months back.
    Frowner
    )

So with this generous offer on the table ( about the best we're gonna get) I'm out.
I was just trying to broker a deal and HABO.
    Good luck.

Habo.
    Удачи.

Looks nice, I'd pop for one of them. But at 300+, it's a bit too steep for me.
Then again, it's a LE from miles away....

I'm talking myself to not want one.
    Dunno if it's working yet.

    From our Boy in Russia.
Looks like they are really trying to help!

"So, at guns.ru we find a man who can take knives to San Jose at september 9.

    Hes help fo free.

But we need to get money at 6 or 7 september.

I dont knon is it possible to use account in US, but if you agree for all this i can try:
    1. tell me how many knives (but no less then 2 for we can use a US account)
    2. and send me a clear request fo bank requisites"

So are there at least 2 people who are in?
I super wish I could pull the trigger if only to be part of this.

    Tomorrow is the last chance.

    Whats the total shipped again?

    Thanks

  • n2knvs
I've never seen a total. I've seen the sum of $350 mentioned but never a firm price.
I'll shoot Our Boy a PM and get back!

He said no pre-payment needed. I am within driving distance from San Jose, so is DJ and Joe K. I would be willing to do what is needed to make this happen, especially if my cost gets reduced
    Wink

I suppose a price is needed to gauge intrest and commitment.

If Russian Ares-2 #27 is still available, I'm in. Then I'll probably sell #65 here on the boards. It would be cool to have all 3 matching numbers on the 2012 Ares knives.

  • mcm
Agree, I would be very interested if #3 or #4 are up for grabs. 3 of a kind would be cool....
