I'll work on that for ya, Marty.Haha.
/|\ Jason, would it help us get the 943-1 if we had Mac put on his knee pads & weep for the 943-1?
PS: Mac the 943-1 will be great for cutting both bear & your toe nails, so it is an essential piece of camping gear.
PSS: carry weight of two 943-1 is less than one 818 (less touch up sharpening in the field)
Why is he wearing knee pads...?0 -
Sorry Jason, I forgot to mention the mini Loco is absolutely awesome!
There's a lot to like here, mine came razor sharp, the grind is symmetrically near perfect, the action is very smooth and the blade is centered perfectly.
I really like the size & it's heavy duty build.
Home run, for sure.0 -

Awesome! That's what we like to hear! I carry one on occasion, although it's not really my cup of tea, generally speaking.0 -

Cup of tea? I think the Loco build is more like a gallon thermos of espresso.
Fair trade and shade grown espresso beans of course, for you Oregonians.0 -
We are a very conscientious bunch of folks, for sure.
True though, if the Loco had a drink, it would not be tea.0 -

De Loco M don't need no stinken tea or coffee
TEQUILA - and keep'em coming.
My big brother schooled me.0 -
What's this "TEQUILA" you speak of??

I must say, my first reaction was to be absolutely delighted see this!
Then I quickly became skeptical.
I knew it was too good to be true.
A DLCed mini Loco (blade & hardware) with CF scales sounds perfect.
Actually, now that I think about it....wanna race?
Too LATE on the scales- We use lasers and special apparel that make us the Laser quickest in the biz

Does that pinky bump land on a different part of the hand compared to the 808? That was the one thing I didn't like about the Loco (and it needs a thumbstud for these fat hammer thumbs). Hopefully my local dealer will have one to fondle next week.0 -
Just saw this pic of the 818. The standoffs look really different from other Benchmade offerings. Did the full loco have these as well? This isn't a knife I'd usually be drawn to but something about it really makes me want it.

Yes, the 818 has the same type of custom oblong standoffs and pivot hardware as it's bigger brother, the 808. I too was drawn to such details when the Loco dropped in 2015. There's a lot to love about the Loco, IMHO. It's not for everyone, sure... But when you appreciate quality cutlery like I do, you just can't help but stay away from the 808/818. Beautiful aesthetics, wonderful ergos for a tank (at least for me), and the most hulk-like Benchmade there is... Oh, and I love that oval opener!
I still need to get a 818 in hand though.
I'm going to make that a priority.0 -
My 818 is "Out For Delivery"........ 0 -

Oh man... it's getting real now.0 -
Saw some pics of the Mini with the full sized Loco...looks like the Mini is actually a pretty good sized knife, may actually fit my grip better than the full sized one. Lawd hep me, I might have to try one...
Will someone please post a pic of the Lil' Loco next to a Griptilian for comparison?
Thank you!0 -
Just snapped this one for comparison Po. I've had this knife for less than 30 minutes and already love it.

Wow, that was fast. Thank you, Nate!
Look at that...that's a Griptilian sized knife.
On the 808, my pinkie winds up right on that peak or hump near the rear of the handle. I'm thinkin' on the Lil' Loco, I'll get three fingers ahead of that peak, and my pinkie behind it, which should feel and work pretty well. Got another insta-pic of it in your hand?
Thanks again!0 -
The pinkie lands right where you described. 0 -
Like keyman's pic, my pinky sits beyond the bump.

Cool, thanks for sharing those pics guys. I'm interested in the 818, but I've been a bit worried about how it would feel in hand, and whether or not my grip on it would feel crowded... But it appears you gentleman have no issue there. I love the 808, and have no problems with my fingers falling comfortably into place. I really can't comment much more on the 818 because I still haven't held one, but I'm even more excited to pick one up now that I've seen Nate's comparison shots. I can definitely get down with a full sized Griptilian, so you guys have got me even more psyched to try out the Mini Loco.
I love the 808 so much that I EDC'd it Keyman-style, almost exclusively for all of 2015. And although I still love it, I really haven't given it a lot of pocket time in the last year or so. I miss it. I'm hoping the 818 will get me in a Loco headspace once more.0 -
Awww, man...that does indeed look pretty much ideal. Right, gonna have to have one.
Thanks Nate, thanks Mike!0 -
Thanks for pics gentlemen. Love to see it next to a Rift as that is what I’d expect it to bump from my carry gear ( OK LB please get up off the floor).
Thanks!0 -

Yes!! There's still hope for Mr. Hammer to 'get a little Loco!'
(See what I did there?

I had the same problem with the 808, and the 818 fits my hand like my Rift does. The pinky bump sits right in between my fingers.
My issue is the finger guard portion in front is so curved that it makes it almost impossible for me to flick the blade out with my thumb. I must use the Axis flip to open the knife.0 -

I was having a similar experience with mine. Polishing the washers helps greatly but it still requires a little wrist action as well. Oval or oblong openers can be frustrating because the best point of contact is when pushing outward instead of forward.0 -
Yeah, I can't thumb flip my 808, I have to use my index finger from the other side to get the blade started out, then finish with a little wrist flick. Not my favorite thing about the Loco. 0 -
Pics might make me get into a miniLoco.

My short fat thumbs don't help, either. It would work much better like this:0 -
Just like the Rift in hand, pinky rests perfectly behind the "bump." Really favor the heavy-duty build also. 0
