Aside from the very unique blade shape, you would think they got a little inspiration from the AFCK?0 -
Tony, nice new thread...but it should be called "The Random Benchmade Photo Thread". You know what happened last time. 0 -
Yeah you're right, but that wouldn't be as fun.

DJ, I forgot how good that M4 806 looks. It made me grab one and stuff it in my pocket!

Joe, I had a 580...I can't remember the number, but it was the larger one with the plastic handle and the funky looking blade shape. I didn't like those two features or the blade steel they used so I sold it. It appears that yours solves all three complaints: You have a G-10 handle instead of plastic, a blade shape that's nice and looks like it's sporting either a high flat-grind or a hollow-grind. Third, the blade steel is an upgrade to M390. I can't recall what the stock version came with but I assume this is better steel.
Congratulations! If the originals would have been released like yours, I would now have two of them instead of none.

Thanks FJ, to confirm; it's a high flat grind and sharp as all getout. I suspect if these came out in G-10, non-LE, many more would've been bought by us...agreed! 0 -
Yes, if memory serves, the original 580's might have been 154CM steel which is a great entry level steel and nice upgrade above 440C, but I don't buy that steel unless its a knive style that I really have to have and that's all that it comes in.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with 154CM other than imo with all the M4 and M390 knives out there, I'm kind of done with 154CM. For me, it's sort of run its course. I think I'm down to only about 4 154CM knives out of about 40 Benchmades...or 10%.0 -
Laser, that little M2 Nim Cub you've got there is one of the funnest small light-duty fixed blades I own. Getting a nice leather sheath for it helped too. I don't mean to disparrage the knife by calling it light-duty, but it does have a blade of moderate thickness which, BTW makes it a great slicer. Some other heavy duty blades like the Benchmade Rant are thicker and suited for different duties. Personally, I don't confuse them. I use the Nim for slicing and cutting and the Rants for pounding through stuff...if I was a preppy I'd call it batoning.
