Got Your Vicar?
Just wanted to throw this out...the 757 Vicar is still available, and at close out prices. This is one of the most amazing knives Benchmade has produced. Yes it is kinda radical, kinda extreme, but it is also extremely awesome, strong, smooth, comfortable, and Sibert. You can always sand down the overlays, but I just don't let them bother me.
I wonder if more than the numbered First Production were made? Mine is marked First Production - 8?? of 1000.
With such a short production run, and such high quality, this should be a cult classic eventually. If you are under 40, it will be a good investment if nothing else.

How would you compare this to the MPR (as a knife, not about production status or run size)? If I wanted to pick just one non-gold Sibert Benchmade, why should I pick one or the other? I'm asking because I'm interested, but I don't know which way to go. Thanks!
EDIT: Adamas too. I have an Adamas folder but it doesn't have the chunky look of the MPR or Vicar.0 -
Had to have it moment I saw it.
Kinda regret not grabbing the initial nightmare grind 757 at my local dealer... kinda.
It's one of the highest quality monolocks Benchmade has ever released. If not THE best.
When I first got mine, I was amazed at it's smoothness. Still am.
The stacked G10 overlays are really, really grippy, and abraided the heck out of my pockets at first, but It was easily remedied by adjusting it's Ti clip. Now I love carrying mine.
Po is right. The same thing occurred to me at lunch today when I sliced up my pizza with my 757...
Grab one now while you still can.0 -

I vote Vicar all the way, and I'm an M390 snob...0 -

To me, the Adamas feels blockier than the Vicar. To each his own, eh?
I found the G10 so annoying on the 757 that I ordered a set of those side pieces in Micarta. Made all the difference, and I love the knife now. I absolutely recommend getting one if you find a deal.0 -
The Adamas is definitely beefy but somehow it always appeared a bit more rounded and sculpted to my eye than the other Sibert products, which looked more angular and geometric in their slab-style handles. Maybe I'm just imagining things.
I think the only strike I can find against the Vicar would be the non-ambi lock, but I might just have to pick one up anyway.0 -
The Vicar with Micarta side pieces. 0 -
^ There we go. I was just gonna pop in and ask Redwood to show his modified 757, because clearly it's awesome. Thanks for beating me to it, Red.
Always loved your Vicar.0 -
I just ordered one. Couldn't resist at the closeout price I found.
I'm thinking that green pocket shredder piece will be changed to cf.0 -
Oh no
While waiting for Marty's reply it went from in stock to discontinued at knife center.
Where else0 -
I love the shape of the blade and handle on these. If it had only been an Axis lock I would have bought one for sure. 0 -

My choice is the Vicar. I'm sure they are very similar in terms of production quality. The Vicar is just bigger, and more organic in terms of ergonomics. The Vicar feels perfectly at home in my hand.
I think of the Vicar as being slimmer and more comfortable than the Adamas. The Adamas handle is a good one, just a bit thicker, and I think blockier than the Vicar. Mebbe the best way to put it is I feel comfortable with the Vicar clipped in my pocket, but don't like to carry the Adamas that way at all. Took the clip off my Adamas and carry it in a pouch only. Both are excellent designs though.0 -
Well, you guys talked me into it. I just order one for $150 which I feel like was a steal from the reviews you have been giving it. Very excited about getting this one in hand! 0 -

I love tumbled. Pre-scratched, so to speak (Pink Panther).
The one that turned Out Of Stock on me was tumbled. The others don't say and it's hard to discern via the pictures.0 -

Whoa
Thanks for the heads up.
I was going to call around today. I just don't think it could get cheaper than this.
Amazing the disparity in prices between business's.0 -

Was yours tumbled0 -
Description said satin. Did they make these in both tumbled and satin or are they all like Marty's and it is up to the dealer to write the description?
Jason or someone else from BM might be able to clarify.0 -
I went back online and looked again. The description says satin but the attached picture's look to be tumbled like Marty's. I think they may all be tumbled and satin is the dealers generic term for not BK coated. 0 -

Well that would be GREAT if so.
And you're right they all look tumbled.0 -
Yeah all the ones I've found pics of appear to be tumbled. I'd pick one up before they are all gone. There may be some cheaper than what I found but I feel like it is an extremely low price and won't last long. 0 -

^This.
Dang, sounds like I started a bit of a Vicar craze.
Nah, Benchmade started it. Glad it's catching on. The knife really is that great.
Glad you guys who are interested seem to be getting a steal of a deal. I think I paid close to full MSRP back when I first bought mine. Either way - worth it!0 -
This will be my second liner lock.
My first non-BM liner lock I had MANY years ago.
Not a good story. The lock slipped and almost cut my finger off.
But I figure this is BM quality and that won't be a concern0 -

I gotta believe we'll be safe from the guillotine. Especially with the Vicar's double thick Ti liners measuring at .09"
I'm confident in calling this a hard use knife. I don't easily throw title out there with liner locks. But BM got this one right. Plenty of high end features for a hard user, too. Insanely good texturing on the scales. Carbidized lockface. Secure detent. Blade jimping matches up perfectly with the liner jimping in the open position. Titanium pocket clip. Sibert signature blood groove. Big beefy blade that you'd almost swear is riding on bearings, it's so smooth.
I'll add a couple more points of interest.
Due to the weight of the blade, it flies open with a thumb stud flick. But you definitely can also shake the blade out and it'll snap open hard. No fear of accidental blade deployment, the detent does its job. Yet you don't even need much of a wrist flick to snap it home (like you would a Medford), just shake it gently in a downwards motion and the blade swings out fully.
Also, with this being a tank of a knife, beefy construction aside, I do find just a bit of crowding on the handle when my intention is to place my thumb on the jimping. It can be done, but I have to thoughtfully pull my thumb back. It naturally want to be placed a little more forward. When I do pull my thumb back on the jimping, a very tight and secure purchase can be felt between my index finger and thumb, which is great, but then my pinky gets pushed down ever so slightly, riding just a bit too low on the handle for me to be 100% comfortable. You guys with average size hands shouldn't notice that at all though.
In a hammer grip, it's an absolute dream. Much like every Sibert I've ever held.
Same can be said for a draw-cut grip.
Lots of great stuff to be said about the Vicar. I mentioned all of the above without even delving into it's blade shape and grinds...Oh yeah, they're pretty awesome too.
