wooo. got one coming my way 0 -
Okay, I'm convinced....time to finally get a 940 0 -
i've held out thus far too, agony. this does look like a nice one though. 0 -
it looks quite nice to me, but I am confused as to why this would be worth just $7 less than the 940-1 which has better everything about it? 0 -
I've never used either the CPM-20V or S90V. Anyone have any real-world comparisons? 0 -

CPM-20CV is basically M390, I wouldn't say its sub par compared to S90V. A G10 940 has been a fan dream model for quite a while, too. With it being an unlimited model, it's going to fly off the shelves.0 -
Is it a limited?
Limited to how many?
Are they numbered?0 -
No. It is more an exclusive than a limited edition. That leaves some things open if you know what I mean. As in, gee these sold well let's make more. 0 -

Really good question. G10 is less expensive than Al to machine and especialy the coating process for AL. I assume S90V is more expensive but don't know for sure. Machining S90V will take longer and wear out grinding tools faster. On top of of that you get carbon fiber scales. My opinion is the 940-1 is underpriced for what you get. I think the 940-1501 is fairly priced.
As far as real world comparisons on the steel, CPM-20V is identical in composition to M390. Different companies. Both are make good steel. Don't know if there are differences in heat treat and/or quality control.
Here is a neat website with lots of info on steel. I don't think I ever looked up a steel here that wasn't listed. Type in M390 and you get both M390 and CPM-20V. zKnives0 -
I am hoping that the suggested retail price.
KW's 710-1401 & 810-1401. Both have suggested retail prices over $200 & both are priced at $179.
Now both of those knives have same G-10 & M390, so quality of materials the 940-1501 is comparable. As the 940-1501 actually has about 1/2 the material as the 810-1401, the pricing of the 940-1501 can't be attributable to cost of materials.
I really like dealing with the folks at KW & 94x's are my favorite production knife. Now having stated the facts, I am going to reign in my enthusiasm for the 940-1501 and hope for a KW SPECIAL PRICING on this or mention Benchmade Forum and get a 20% discount.
Or buy 3 & get the fourth free ( works for tires)

(Bill Hammer beat me to the punch while I was drinking my coffee):
My question is why does the 710-1401 cost $80 less, while using more of virtually the same materials?!0 -
Maybe because it's brand new. They aren't running a discount price, yet? Did they immediately offer the "discount" on the other exclusive models they sell like the 810 and 710 models?
I'm not such a fan of the look of the G10 scales on this one that I'm sure I'm going to order one. I can get g10 scales if my choosing from second party vendors.
Not ruling it out completely, mind you, but I'll look at some more pics. If the price was in the ballpark of my 710-1401, I'd be on board already. There's also supposed to be a dealer exclusive coming out this week (I think) from KnivesShipFree. I'll wait and see what that one is.0 -
In my experience, which is only that, my experience, s90v stays sharp quite a bit longer than m390. I have used them both very extensively. 0 -

whats the dealer exclusive knife?0 -
Lol. It's a secret! Someone from KnivesShipFree alluded to it somewhere on this forum, and Jason (the Forum mod from Benchmade) said yup, it's coming, and it's a good one. So we'll see. Supposed to be announced this week. 0 -

Hey, there's never a bad time to be picking up AFCKs... especially in M390.0 -
if ksf is another 940 variant wulff's head may implode.
0 -
Yes it may. 0 -
Matt, if that is the case maybe you should limit your web viewing to those sites were they put holes in the blades, good stuff, but nothing that will make your head go boom.
Fair warning do not go to any threads with DOAT 940 work!
Matt really wish there were more of us 940 fans then Benchmade could economically make a mini & über size 940 in lots of colors. Regards, Bill
PS Would that made your eyes bulge & your mouth hang open?0 -
just caught another thread mentioning they've dropped price on these. that's making it even more difficult to resist one of these now... 0 -

15% off the original price. That's a little more reasonable. Had to go ahead and order one even though I'm not much of a fan of the blue/black scheme that KW does.0 -
