I think BKC discontinued the 710 to sell the Crooked River. That knife is close to the 710.
Some may say even better. Sacrilege!

I don't think BKC has a knife like the FACT.
    It's super skinny.
    I even like the scales.

Thanks for the picture on the other thread, BM-B.
    Smiler

I think CR is closer to 810 IMO. I thought of 710 being more skinny knife.

There is no replacing the 710.
But when I place the blades over each other the CR is close

Hey Marty, as our Canadian blade aficionado with affinity in wildness use of long blade, what do you like of fact over Crooked river?

Well, as a guy who happens to LOVE both the 15080 Crooked River and the 417 Fact, I can immediately tell you that I prefer to carry the Fact more often. I really enjoy it’s minimalist design that also makes amazing use of space by still retaining a full 4” blade within it’s slender frame. This model is an extraordinary excercise in engineering.

    Blade Length: 3.95"
    Closed Length: 4.77"
    Handle Thickness: 0.48"
    Weight: 3.24oz.

The Fact, having a near 5” handle combined with it’s lengthy blade & needle-like tip is a no-brainer since it can be had in such a pocket-friendly package. It, along with my 15200DLC, are my very favourite EDC’s of all the 2018 releases. They get carried the most out of all my new ones, by far. Especially this summer. In shorts, I’m really starting to see the beauty of carrying thin, unobtrusive folders that are lightweight. I love The Fact because it doesn’t exclude me from carrying a large knife when dressing up in nicer clothes or wearing shorts. I still am able to bring by preferred 4” blade with me, but now it’s like I’m unaware that there’s even a knife in my pocket. And I’m sure others are unaware when I carry it as well. It’s a very stealthy knife. And it’s no slouch in being a solid and sturdy folder. I’m amazed by it’s combination of manly overall length, lightweight feautures and solid, full liners. In my hand, it’s got a great secure feel, with plenty of room for a comfortable full grip that’s not going anywhere due to a nice deep half choil that does a great job at locking in the index finger. With the thumb applying pressure atop the blade on the short run of jimping, a very sure & tight grasp can be had on the knife, and the stock aluminum scales are great for added traction against your fingertips which run down the handle.

As a true EDC, I think I actually would prefer the Fact.
Yet, I still very much love the Crooked River, mostly for all the reasons we’ve already heard Po mention.

Utility ergonomics. Handle has a great shape, and the index finger cutout. Just sweet to use.

I carry a Crooked River frequently when I’m up North on my hunting trips or just up at the cabin, mostly in the Spring, Autumn & Winter. As a hard use utility knife, the Crooked River is definitely a better choice than the Fact, which is better suited for delicate cutting and slicing, IMO. The Crooked River is still great for both light slicing duties and hard cutting alike, due to brilliant blade geometry.

I love the size, following top lines, and blade designs of both aforementioned knives. They are both great in their own way, but are two different animals entirely. It all comes down to intended use, as well as the environment you may be carrying said blade, and what you may be wearing. At least, those are definitely factors in my decision making process when considering an EDC. Of these two (Fact vs. Crooked River), I don’t think you could go wrong with either. Crooked River for wilderness, Fact for EDC. Both are winners in my book.

Currently though, my 417BK is getting all the pocket time.
    Brilliant knife!

    Very much agree.
And I don’t think it should come as any surprise that the Fact is an excellent choice as a lightweight tactical/self-defence/self-offence knife. It is a folding ice pick. One that feels like it was born to be opened, locked, and then stab something.

I sure wouldn’t want to be perforated by a Fact...

Big fan of the fact here. It replaced my 940s (all 3) as my go to blade. Went in for the novelty of a axis deployments tactical spearpoint. Got a long slim but strong blade capable of delicate cutting, great slicing capabilities, and it feels so much more solid in hand then my 940 1.

Here's a gallery of pics comparing it to the 940 mostly. http://imgur.com/gallery/CfCqvmH

    /|\ Dodgie02, Welcome.
I’m big fan of 940. (it has been primary EDC for 15+ years). I think your pics clearly show the superior design of 940 over the Fact. Please note these better features of 940:

    1) handle design bottom guard is longer than on Fact thus less chance of fingers slipping onto the blade.
    2) 940 Handle is more comfortable in hand & design not being “blocky”, like the Fact, makes it easier to index the 940.
    3) 940’s Blade is thicker & broader at tip so not as likly to break off & wider blade will cause larger wound channel when stabbing & blade design with also produce deeper slashing wounds.
    4) flatter handle design on 940 means it doesn’t print like the Fact under clothing.

sorry guys took my time twice on my phone and think I have a compelling argument, which you may disagree with but probably understand my feelings toward it. Now I'm really in a rush and I also wanted to address that in my opinion and findings the fact actually had better ergos and which in turn provide a level of secure grip in difference positions or level of intensity in use. That thing x
Will not slip, the handle has 2 in curves where the fingers rest comfortably. The strong but solid light aluminum gives a damn nice grip and the jimping on the spine of the blade actually benefits the grip. The aluminium texture is actually smooth on top each ridge, it's so thin the ergos and the texture of the aluminum give it such a secure grip and comfortable really. Can't imagine this slipping out of hand even if I start slicing pieces of oaks (looking at you smooth carbon fiber stonewashed friend!!)
Pics when I'm home to illustrate. Off to Rob some stores with my new stabbey fact!

You seriously read my mind, dj.
I literally was just going to bump this thread after I noticed some rumblings amongst the Forum when it comes to the Fact vs. the new SOCP folder.

I’m quite excited for the 390 to drop, but I’ve got to say...
I personally feel that the Fact blows most other recent Black Class knives out of the water. I don’t know how the 417 can be considered anything but a clear winner. Agreed, dj. Definitely one of the best new designs in a while.

I would prefer Fact over SOCP folder, since SOCPfolder doesn't have the AXIS lock..

/|\ Unfortunately the middle ground I’d hope for doesn’t exist.

Both have pro & cons over the other.

I’ve handled the Fact & didn’t purchase. My cons on the Fact are all handle related. It’s blocky, rough feel & metal handle. Comparing it to the 940-1 I had in my pocket, I could think of a situation where I’d rather the Fact in pocket over the 940-1 based on that blocky handle.

The SOCP’s handle though I ‘ve not held it looks great. My biggest con on the SOCP is its blade length makes it illegal to carry in my state & lots of other states & cities. Other things that concern me is carry being a liner lock. If I’m clipping a knife inside my pants as they do in the video, then I want the axis lock which I trust to keep the blade in closed position. On same under cloths concealment I want to get rid of the glass breaker too. To me blade steel a toss up (D2 vs S30v). A 4.5” folder to me is best in horizontal belt sheath.
I also have a preference for thumb disk over thumb stud but no deal breaker. Because of the great looking handle design on the SOCP, I could see wanting it over a 940 in certain situations.

So maybe BKC will let these two have a love child with best features of both.

Until then I am leaning toward Fact & aftermarket handle in a slim down handle slabs in a rough G10 for grip retention.

In the video on the SOCP, you hear them speak to the value of tip down carry. I know that is like kneeling during the national anthem to some... Myself I never really cared and can adjust to either style of carry. That being said, tip down carry is one way to solve the blade opening issue.

When it comes to the Fact, you have to throw the aesthetics out the window... There is nothing really pretty about this knife. I will admit it grows on you, but nothing to write home about. As for the handle, a knife that excels in defensive applications should have a neutral, that allows you to shift grips from forward to reverse. What that also means is that it will never be a comfy couch in any grip. If you commit to a comfortable forward grip (edge down) you will always rule out reverse grip edge in. To be honest I would almost prefer the Fact to be even less comfortable than it is.

As for the length of the SOCP, I agree on several points that it maybe a bit large on paper. Not only could that be an issue IWB, but as you note also legally.

/|\ Mark, it isn’t how the Fact feels in hand once open it fine. My dislike was the blockiness when pulling from pocket through the opening of the blade & getting your hand in position to use the knife. It would be like a round axe handle rather the oval, harder to orientate.

Somebody get Askewstage in here and make this happen:

    4.5” spearpoint with thumbdisk
    AXIS LOCK!
    Finger guard/half choil
    Full skeletonized liners
    Dimpled G10 scales
