940-1501 question
Ok I was taking my 940-1501 apart to fix some blade play issues. Upon doing this I discovered it had a different length pivot than my aluminum handled 940. The pivot is longer and the pivot screw is longer than the one on the regular 940. They even use a different threading. The -1501 uses a much closer threading. I happened to mention this to a scale maker when inquiring about possibly having some scales made and he informed me that the 940-1 and regular 940 had the same length pivot. Since the 940-1 and 940-1501 are the exact same thickness one would assume they would use the same length pivot. So I'm now wondering if by chance they put the wrong pivot in my knife. Possibly the pivot from a minigrip. is there anyone who has taken the -1501 apart that could weigh in on this. Or is there anyone who would be willing to. You would only have to remove the pivot screw and compare it to the aluminum 940 or 940-1 since they were different lengths and threading. Anybody with any info on this would be appreciated. Wondering if this is causing my blade play. Thanks

It may be possible in very remote chance, it was mixed up.
Best way is to send to BKC for "SPA treatment" They can fix it for you for sure.0 -
I just checked the pivot screw on the 940-1501 against one on the 940-1 & the 950-1501 screw is longer & the thread patten us different.
Jason, what is going on?0 -
940-1 and 940-1501 should have the same d-nut and pivot screw.
The 940 is different.
It's not a huge difference between the two, but the screw for the 940-1 and 940-1501 have 6-40 threads to increase adjustability over the more coarse 6-32 used in the 940.0 -
My 940-1 screw must have the same "courser" turning as a regular 940. As stated above the lenght if the 940-1 screw was shorter with the courser turning. The diameter of the d nut maybe the same but the threading inside has to be different - correct? 0 -
It certainly sounds like that may indeed be the case, Bill. 0 -
Jason, do you know if there is a difference between the lengths of the pivots in the 940 and 940-1501, or just the threads? Is it the mini grip pivot your using in those now?
Also it definitely seems that the first production 940-1 were the normal 6-32... at least mine is.0 -

Yes, they're slightly different lengths in addition to having different threads. And yeah, it actually is a mini grip pivot haha.0 -
Jason, this likely won't come as a shock to you but I've ordered a blue twill CF handled from DOAT to use with my half of the 940-1501 ( inclusive of pivot pin & screw). Since my 940-1 has an old short screw like the 940, does the first batch of 940-1 also have the same short pivot as the regular 940? If so can I swap out the pivot & screw from the 940-1501 and put them in my 940-1? Then use the pivot & screw that were in the 940-1 in the DOAT custom handles which are the same size as the regular 940.
Thanks Bill0 -
Bill,
The pins should be totally interchangeable between the 940 and 940-1, so long as you keep the screws with the correct pins. The 940-1501 and 940-1 are designed to use the same pin, so your proposed swap shouldn't cause any issues.
Hope that helps.0 -
