875-101
Just over a month now with my most exciting Gold purchase this year...
Barely touched it until last night. (immediately into the safe it went)
A couple cocktails and some conversation about golds caused me to pull it out last night.
The first thing I thought: I just wasted the last month and change by keeping it locked up. This needs to be delicately carried.
I freaking love this one, guys. It's a special one.
I've promised myself to rock this knife around the house only, or any time I wear dress slacks.
I've said here before, I'm shy with my Golds at first, but they come out after the initial warm-up phase.
Got me thinking though...
This seems like a pretty sweet candidate for some Keyman scales.
I think it was Po who put that bug in my ear.
Well, I haven't forgotten, Po.
Now's the time where I ask around for prospective scale ideas for my 875-101:
What would you like to see done? Which materials?
Would you even bother with such a project?
I love the knife as is, but I love it so much, I think I'll have some fun with this one.
Ideas please.

Bear fur? That is a scale material isn't it?

Can you imagine the look on Keyman's face if I sent him a bear skull to draw material from for my new inlays? Probably would be the only bear skull inlayed Sentinel on the planet...
Seriously though, I was thinking I didn't want to stray too far from CF, so maybe keep some as an exterior material, with some sort of realistic inlays, but I don't know what.
I also think that the liners, being accent pieces, are so beautiful that I don't want to take anything away from them. I'm starting to be a little wishy washy about even attempting to mess with such a piece that I feel is already a stunner...
What the heck am I doing here?!0 -

On an old school gold class, I would just let it be.
If you want a crazy project for Keyman, we could ask him to replace the pommel strikers on our Bedlams with bear teeth. I have a knife from Alaska with a wolf jaw for a handle that is interesting if not practical. Having a big old bear tooth sticking out the handle of your knife might not be practical, but the bad@ssery factor would be through the roof.0 -
I was totally wrong to have even considered messing with this one. The idea of it seems totally whack, now that I think of it. Total change of heart. Certainly leaving this one alone. Sorry Po. It's not that your scale suggestion idea was "whack", believe me, I've clearly entertained that thought. But there's no reason to beautify such a sentimental piece which I already view as exceedingly beautiful. It's sexy enough. If I have to ask for help to dream up a better idea, there's probably not one I'd be perfectly happy with.
At first I agreed though, it woulda been fun project.
I'd however have felt totally guilty about it.0 -

Doing it! Now there's a better idea than mine! (Po's too)
Uh yeah, what was I thinking? I wasn't.
Leaving the golds alone.
Going to work on a brainstorm for which knife handle we should inlay a canine tooth from one of my bigger bears.
Mark my words, I'm having that done.
Thanks Chip.
