bmknives.com? I like it. 0 -
Essentially, bmknives.com is just a sub domain of Knife Works that exclusively features Benchmade!
Same people as Knife Works!0 -
I would love to see a photo of a "blue" one. 0 -

A blue one?0 -
Me too,
If you flip the inside layer of blue G-10 to outside, I think I'd buy several.
Kind of like the Prince of Belair turning his school blazer inside out was way cooler than the plain navy blue side0 -
So like if the top was blue instead of black and the scallops were black instead of blue? 0 -
yes, exactly that! That's what I'm hoping mine is.. knifeworks makes it sound like they'll be one or the other. 0 -
They'll all be black on top, actually. Not quite the same deal as the 810-1401, due to us having to target two different layers to get those scallops to look right. Actually a pretty tricky piece of machining. 0 -
Ok, Like the 810-1401 I assumed the same that some would be blue, some black. On the KW website it says this and they cannot look through stock to get a blue or black one. 0 -
I wish they offered 20cv and the 940 in the custom shop cough cough

Does the recent move to CPM-20CV mean that Benchmade will phase out M390 in the near future? 0 -
How about a 940 without a 'top'? Nothing but spacers so grit and trouser lint dont build up inside the closed knife. 0 -
This one and the 940-1 have just back spacers. 0 -

It seems that way.0 -
As it stands today we're not phasing out M390. We put it on two new models for 2016, and I'm sure there will be more to come throughout the year. 0 -

Phew, I was worried for a while.
I know PM has not warmed up against CPM 20CV, but composition wise, and Crucible's track record indicates that with BKC's HT process that is already familiar with M390 would not make me shy away from this.
Simply put, I have not used long enough, and that is my reason of not criticizing against 20cv.
If BKC can use it just as good as M390 and cut the cost, I think that is wise choice.
Still, M390 is my first beloved Girl of stainless steel.0 -

A Rift, I hope?0 -
Count me in with PM & MFL I like the M390 on my 810-1401 better than other blade steels. Very happy with S90v & D2 on my 940D2CF & 940-1 but the M390 seems better. When I had a 940-1501, prior to returning I wasn't happy with grind lines on blade putting that up against the finish on the 810-1401 the M390 looked a lot better. As I was not pleased with the looks of the handle and then the blade finish, I re-packed the knife to send back, no idea performance wise how the 940-1501 would fair against the other 3 steels mentioned in daily use or resharpening.
But I'll jump at blades with M390 and shying away from the American substitute.
So glad to hear M390 going to be around & hope it used frequently even if it means $5 more per blade.0 -

Sacrilege! I have two RIFT and for their role I wouldn't change anything. Other BM models for other roles. What would you like to change in the RIFT?0 -

Is BM going to move away from D2? (Not a fan of D2)0 -

No. Not that I'm aware of, and I'm not sure why we would. Lots of people like D2. It's certainly not our most popular steel, but there's no reason to get rid of it either. I think it has its place in our line.
P.S. M390 and 20CV cost about the same. No real cost-savings from one to the other.0 -

I have additional question then. Would there be substantial cost increase to use CPM-D2? Would cost increase out wear the benefit?
Thank you for letting us know CPM-20CV is similar in cost as M390. Would heat treatment similar or more difficult with M390?0 -
CPM-D2 with respect to just regular D2? Yes there would be a decent cost bump. I'm sure that to some people that would be worth it, but who knows?
HT is very similar for M390 and CPM-20CV.0 -

Just make the blade in M390. That is the only thing to change. It deserves an upgraded steel since it's been out for 8 years.0 -
From what Jason has told us, I would like Rift (dare I call it 950-2 or 951)
* CPM20cv / M390 steel (blade. Yeah, yeah. I want S110V)
* I like blade to be a bit thicker.
* Stamp out holes to the liner.
* any color spacer, but please keep it black G10

Black/gray like current ones, any way. I want to be able to dye them.0 -

Oh, yeah. I can live with that.0 -
MFL & LB,
Yes! As we buy them hope BM design team sees this, as this takes a good knife & will make it better. Carrying the 950 a lot (with my 940s) your list of improvements is it ( until advancements in material & lock design move ahead)0 -

As long as the steel is not D2 or other steel that is harder to sharpen. Too hard steels equate to a loss of utility.

That is when you use diamond sharpener.0
