Blade Show Reports (Feel Free To Post)
I'll get some pics up tomorrow, hopefully. (I heard Carson took a few today).
The Osborne prototypes from the vault were amazing! A whole case of Osborne original, one-of-a-kind prototypes made by the man himself for BM. Truly historic pieces (e.g. the wooden 940 that Warren carved and took to BM as a concept; original Kulgera concept by Warren; original Contego concept by Warren, etc, etc.). What makes them even more interesting is that most have no lock mechanism, whatsoever. And, as I said, these knives are literally from the vault.
Other knives:
The 810-1601...yeah, it's all that.
928 Proxy - I like it a lot...for a frame-lock (monolock).
965 mini Ti - Same as above.
490 Amicus Axis Flipper - This one works...and I like it.
All for now. Big fun in GA.
Oh, I almost forgot. I've lined up all necessary parties and (yet to be made) material for my very own, super-secret custom BM project. It'll be a while before the final product will be in my hands, but here are two hints: 1) Mike Nichols and 2) first ever in the industry.

Man.. I wish I could see that history in person. Thanks for taking the time to take some pics! Give us something to drool over
More on this super-secret project plz!0 -
I'll make sure to post the pics tomorrow night.
No more on my secret project till it's done, maybe by this time next year. (I might respond to a PM, though).
And if the knife I liked today is still there tomorrow, I'll more than likely be selling one or two of my LE 806s.0 -
Any mention of the 928 Proxy? I'm still wondering about that... Didn't see anything about it in the Blade HQ video that was just put up. 0 -
I handled a Proxy and really liked that one, as well. All of the new knives should've started to ship last week, I was told.
The luncheon was great, once again. BM gave away three large Griptilians (CPM-M4/G10 a la "build your own"). We also got to see a new prototype that will go into production. Let me just say...if you like the Ritter Grip blade, you'll probably luuuuv this. It's like a Ritter, only more Rittery. Additionally, we got the scoop on developments for the coming year and BM is gonna be coming out with a lot of new, different, and pretty cool knives. Basically, more high-end materials on fresh designs.
Another luncheon highlight was TDoggs' 940 collection. Unreal! Among all the other 940 models he showed us, he owns more than half of the Damascus/silver twills (940-81) that were produced. I saw them with my own eyes.
I think Carson will post his Osborne prototype pics. Here's one of mine for now:0 -
Just got back from my second day at blade...good to see everyone again and thanks to Benchmade for the forum lunch. One piece of advice start saving your money...30th anniversary stuff in the works. 0 -
Awesome, encore! 0 -
Nice any pictures of TDOGGS collection. BHQ put a short youtube of 940-2 and 810 LE. 0 -

No, dammit! I thought about after we left. But it was...just ridiculous. BM's Derrick said "His sickness - it's cool". Ha, I had to agree.0 -
Thanks for the updates, sre1.
I'm living vicariously through you guys again, for the second year in a row, not being able to attend Blade Show.
Keep us posted guys, much appreciated.0 -
Very nice lunch - everyone got a goodie bag with a water bottle, benchmade lanyard and some assorted stickers and patches. The 3 Grips they gave away were a nice surprise. One of each of the new G10 colors with gray M4 steel. Have to give props to Scotts Dad (or maybe it was his father-in-law), he won a knife but refused it so a forum member could have it. Very cool jesture on his part. BM really set the bar high this year. Already looking forward to Blade 2017! 0 -

That was my Dad. Yeah, it was a classy move. Him being there was really like me having two chances for a knife...and I'm not really a Grip guy anyway. Plus, it was more fun the way it went down!0 -
Was Les De Asis himself there and how is he doing? He is one of my favorite people in history. 0 -
Les wasn't there and neither was Jon. Jon was there a couple of years ago, though. I have his business card.
I posted this in another thread, but it can go here, too:
I talked to Doug Ritter about the DLC coating on the M4 Griptilians. He said it was, in fact, stonewashed after the DLC was applied. When I asked him what medium/process they used to do the stonewashing with, he smiled and said he couldn't tell me that. But he did say it was one of those things that he and his team said they would never do again because of the difficulty.0 -
"We also got to see a new prototype that will go into production. Let me just say...if you like the Ritter Grip blade, you'll probably luuuuv this. It's like a Ritter, only more Rittery."

That was a classy move, Your Dad is awesome...I could not thank him enough...I do love my Grips! Thank you again!0 -
I had my ritter with me and held it up next to the prototype. The blade was not as fat as the ritter but the overall look was similar. I tried to get a picture but it was not allowed. It think it was satin - not stonewashed.

And, is this so Rittery that Doug might have been involved? Or just similar in profile?0 -

I thought the blade was fatter and with a higher grind. I also thought the knife was longer, in general. I didn't hold it next to a Ritter, though.
Bigdaddyw20, was it longer than the Ritter or was that just an illusion due to the slightly different shape?0 -
It was a touch longer but not much, definitely not as tall/fat as the ritter. I didn't pay as much attention to the grind.
That one would make a cool forum knife with dlc m390 and cf scales. And we would be the first ones to get it.0 -
I don't think I can say much more... we're still a ways out yet. 0
