Yep, acrylic. "Sweetheart" style grips..throw back to the 2nd WW..service men used scrap pieces plexi glass (aircraft canopy/vehicle wind screen) and made grips...put sentimental pics/pin up pics, underneath.

    I'm sorting out some pics/images.

I post pics, for sure..may order a set for one of my p238's as well.

too thick, too slick, or both? i have medium sized paws at best and 1911s have always been a bit of stretch for me; likely why lacking in stable. still would like to pick up a colt or sa at some point just to scratch off list; albeit being relegated to target/plinking duty.

Yes on both..but it the thickness..lack of contour is the issue.

I dont mind smooth..I have a set of thin, smooth ebony's that I love...banged them up pretty good in a drop leg I wore when moonlighting as range officer/instructor..planned on refinishing, for years now.

That's my range/house gun at the moment..I wouldn't want them on something I carried for SD because of how slick, however...And, the $#!t would have to really hit the fan for me to carry a full size, all steel 1911 these days..

I'm looking for a set of slim micarta's...I read somewhere that "micarta makes everything better"...wise words, indeed..
    Wink

I'm looking to purchase a new pistol for first time in a long time..Trying to replace an old S+W 66-1 I sold 15 years ago...and looking at the Glock (never owned one) 43 and the 19x

As well as a few CZ's, thanks to dj..I like that 75 compact.

very nice, Patrick. My buddy has a Springfield 1911 .45 he uses for tournaments. I've shot it a handful of times and I love it, but I cannot imagine carrying it all day.

    Thanks TB.

If I was to compete (or fight), I'd use the 1911 platform..I'm just so familiar w/ it (old dog)..Single stack, and SA trigger are my comfort zone.

But yea...full size, w/ spare mags..a lot of wieght to hump. Two full 7 round mags w/ 230 gr. ball ammo alone..probably come close to the same wieght as my alloy framed p238..loaded.

Archer competed...I'm not sure if used a 1911 or a DA/SA, striker fire..

Used both slightly modified Colt 1911 and Para Ordanance in SA.

I had both modifed and configured so I could interchange slides and change magazines and shoot 9MM and .45

The best shooting I've ever done was with a single stack 1911 in .45 I even tried carrying it as a SD for awhile, started getting back pains and leaning towards my right side

so I got a Glock and never looked back.

Glock 19 is my recommended pistol for basically... all your needs.

Love the 1911 you got in the pic Patrick, I am an old school traditionalist, I never liked super modified race guns, I think they take the "practical" out of practical shooting, you gotta be able to shoot well with what you carry so practice with what you carry.

Always had pretty good results in competition, was considered a good shooter around those circles but that was between 10 and 25 years ago.

Thanks for the reply, archer..was hoping you'd chime in.

I remember our conversation when you spoke of competition..very cool..I've no doubt you were respected on the circuit.

I would say I'm traditional as well..I'd use that Springfield to compete...It has a match grade barrel, bushing (standard type bushing w/ full length guide rod), and trigger. I might put a fiber optic front sight, bigger mag release button and a mag well on it for competition, depending on class or "box" it had to fit.

...but, yea...some of the modern race (space) guns are cool..but not my thing.

I was determined to buy a Glock some years ago..a 19 or 21, was my only indecision at the time. Before I was done I had five handguns on the counter in front of me..G19, G17, G21, HK USP Tactical .45 ( this is back when everyone wanted that HK Mark 23) and the HK compact .45...driving the guy at the counter nuts for over an hour...I walked out w/ a Kimber Tactical Custom 2..lol...Guy just shook his head, grinning, happy to have made a sale..but having to deal w/ a "1911 guy" dealing w/ the internal (eternal) struggles of things like polymer, double stacks and double action...lol
