To bad I am not much of a writer. I would like to win this one. How cool would that be.

I was soooo excited to enter this contest, being the extreme Benchmade fanboy that I am... The grand prize would be a dream come true... Too bad I'm Canadian and don't qualify

    Dang it.

The only action my knives see are envelopes and boxes...

    sigh.

I'm definitely entering even though this contest sounds like how I wound up being able to go there last year lol. How cool would it be to design a prototype knife though.. awesome!

This may be the best contest I've heard of.

We want to hear any and all stories! For instance, you could tell us a story of how you got your first Benchmade... Was it something that you had always wanted but waited on buying? If so, why did you wait? What made you finally decide to get a Benchmade? Etc.

We want to hear your story and see pictures of your knife or knives!

    Good luck!

    Unfortunately I can't participate as non-U.S.-resident.

Even if I'm Canadian?because I was about to submit my write-up, but saw that you have to live in the USA to claim the grand prize...

Why US residents only? Yeah, I'm Canadian, but live right near the Detroit border... I've collected thousands of dollars in Benchmade knives over the years and love them... I've got a bunch of stories I can tell. But I'm not eligible for this contest?! C'mon Benchmade. Can't we change that rule? You guys wouldn't like it if us Canadians just suddenly stopped buying your products, right? Should we maybe buy only Canadian made knives from now on, seeing as how our business isn't appreciated in the same way as that from a U.S. citizen? Well, no, I don't believe so, (let's not get silly) because I stand by Benchmade as being THE BEST company in the knife industry. I appreciate unrivaled quality. That's why I've always collected Benchmade knives. But I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth when the company that I appreciate so much dangles my dream-opportunity (the grand prize) in front of me, but doesn't seem to appreciate my business enough to include me in any type of chance to actually win anything... Gee, thanks.

My question is: What do I get for my loyalty to Benchmade after all these years? (Being Canadian)

My honest answer: For being Canadian, I got slapped with an extra hidden delivery charge of $92 from UPS when they recently delivered my custom barrage to my door... "Oh, you want the knife you paid for? Well keep paying, and THEN I'll let you have it". - yeah, no prob... Customers always appreciate having to unexpectedly empty their wallet at the door so they can claim their new knife, right? Wrong!

Any other Canadians being left with a sour taste in their mouth, or is it just me? Thoughts anyone??

    Marty,

We appreciate your enthusiasm and of course admire your collection of Benchmade products over the years. Needless to say, you have quite the collection.

In regards to your question about “The Benchmade Ultimate Experience” rules about US residence only we had set this parameter in the planning phases of the contest as international travel can vary significantly in cost depending on location. As we understand that you live near the US/Canadian border we however cannot make one exception without amending the entire rule.

In regards to your statement of a “hidden fee”, I believe you are referring to the duties & brokerage fees. These fees are standard for all purchases made directly from Benchmade that are shipped to any international country. These tax rates of course vary as they are set by the country the product is being imported into. In addition, orders made through our website do note that the shipping cost does not include duties & brokerage fees.

I hope this helps clarify any questions you may have. If you have any further questions please feel free to email me directly at dlau@benchmade.com or call me at 503-655-6004 EXT. 125 and I would be glad to assist.

That has nothing to do with BMK at all, you can thank Canada Customs for that B.S. Customs fees, excise taxes, GST/PST/HST, and on and on.

My sour taste is caused by the Gov't and not by Benchmade (or any other U.S. based company).
