yeah, I noticed the change when I took delivery of my loco. there's a thin charcoal gray foam insert contained within as well. I like the new design.

@pmek: Would you mind posting a link to the video, if it's public? Thanks!

Nah you aren't slow. We've only started using the new packaging for about a month now. It takes awhile to make it to the customers through dealers.

I thought that was just a marketing thing...putting the "Loco" in its own "padded cell".
    Cool

I just checked out the vid. I agree with it...the old packaging was nice, but the new packaging is even nicer. It's like a box that a quality watch comes in.

Wow, awesome. The clamshell is much nicer than the wacky tabs that would get bent with use. Thanks for the link!

There is speculation that the new boxes won't fit into small flat rate boxes. I haven't seen any of the new ones yet or I wouldn't need to ask. Do they?

    That's a good question.

I liked the old packaging, but this new idea look great...I do wonder how it will perform in the small Priority Mail boxes though...

Hey Benchmade if these guys are so excited about package design, how about getting different color plastic sleeves for the knives instead of just clear ones. Then have the little cloth bags in different colors! ( actually that last one not bad blue bags for blue class, gold for gold class, etc)
Hope you don't change the silver Al boxes the special knives come in as those are thread worthy.

The new box's are a huge improvement.
Very sturdy. Was able to check them out at the Shot show. And if you have more than a few they will stack much easier. I have seen a few that didn't have the clear bag (just the draw string sack) and the blue Axis paper wasn't not included. Not sure if this change was part of the new packaging...... Do like the new box's! Thanks!

The new box does not fit into the small USPS flatrate box. But you can force it. But that means it's more likely to get crushed in shipping and possibly even rejected by the post office since it makes the flat rate box bulge.

I'm trying to be open minded, but at this point, I'm not too crazy about the new boxes.

The new box allows for a larger label. The new label appears to have been created to make the knives more "big box store" friendly so that people who have no clue about Benchmade products can more easily identify / find what they are seeking.

Taxesblow...are these two-part boxes or do they hinge in a clamshell fashion?

Each box consists of two 5-sided boxes that nest. Given the relative heights, there's a chance that by laying the two halves side by side in a small flat rate box you could cheat the height by a few mm.

That's what I was hoping, Kirby. To ship though, it would require you to wrap the knife itself in bubble wrap and tape it, but that would be much better packing than letting a knife rattle around loose in a closed knife box, which we have all seen done.

I for one don't care how nice the boxes are if they can't fit properly in a small flat rate box. that is going to make this hobby far more costly if we need to go up a box size.

    phooey!
