Blade Damage Repaired by Lifesharp?
Hi everyone,
Within the past year, I've damaged 2 blades at work. Not under heavy or abusive use in any way, though: I dropped the knives (on 2 separate occasions, was in too much of a hurry) while cutting packing tape. They both fell while open, tip straight down, onto memory foam anti-fatigue mats at a work space. Almost too small to see, but after careful examination, I can see that the very tip of the blades broke off. If I had to guess, each is missing approximately 1/16 of an inch. This is on my 940 from KW in 20CV, and my Kulgera in S30V.
Anyone ever had this happen, and had it fixed under warranty? Trying to decide what to do..I might guess that the blades could be salvaged by regrind or reprofiling, but not sure, I have no experience with such things. I'm also concerned about how that would change the look and shape, even subtly. No pics to share, sorry, but wonder if anyone has had something similar happen.
Thanks!

/|\ Had tip on a CRKT M16-00 break off Very small ( basically sharpened end of tanto tip . I just re-sharpened it. Worker knife looked OK after 3rd sharpening.
You can always buy new blades but I’m sure as working knives BKC can re-sharpen them for useful purpose.
Let us know how you fix them.0 -
Lifesharp will regrind those for you for free. The profile will look a little different but if they're working knives it's not a big deal. You could have the blade replaced for $30. I've heard of Benchmade replacing blades with broken tips for free but it depends on how they deem it was broken or if it was weak material. 0 -
Thanks Bill and Boink,
I guess I'll just have to send em in and see. As all my knives are users, I think you're right, it won't matter much if they're reground.
Wonder if they're able to sell me a new blade for the Kulgera though..0 -
I just had a 522 go in for service. Broken tip. Called CS and said I was ready to purchase a new blade but they said they would evaluate it and regrind if less than an 1/8 inch or so, if not they'd contact me. Got it back yesterday w/ a brand new blade.
Now that's a 522 w/ 440C steel not 20CV or something nicer.0 -

I was pretty impressed with the whole situation. The turnaround was a little long. Originally CS had 3-5 days posted. All in all it was a full 2 weeks, but the knife I got back feels like a brand new knife. Not just the blade but the clip and all the screws were replaced. 0
