CF S90V 710
I'm still thinking about a suggestion that came from Trailboss back when the 940-1 was coming out. He knew the 940 size was a little small for his usual tastes, but he suggested a scaled up version of it as a new 710.
How does that sound? A CF S90V 710 made to the same specs that governed the creation of the 940-1. As far as I'm concerned, the handle could be milled exactly like the one on the 710-1401, which has just enough edge milling that it would make the handle look a little more interesting and it would add some definition and grip. The nice thing is that Benchmade wouldn't have to reinvent the handle from the ground up...they are already making handles in G-10 to that exact spec.
I think the S90V is a fantastic steel...especially the way Benchmade has been using it in the 940-1. It is under-used and they now have great experience with how to heat treat it, so hopefully they will use some more of it. Introducing a new steel would jeopardize the project.
Do you guys think this would be a knife you would want?
Let's try a mock sign-up to see the level of interest:
1. fastjan...I'd take two

Heck, yeah. I'd be on that like a pack of terriers on a three-legged cat.
Trailboss in for two.0 -
I would prefer that it came out with standard scales.
I'd buy one.0 -
I prefer it w/ the standard scales as well. (Unless we talking CF, no bolster ) Maybe even keep price point down. Like the muscle cars of old...put the money/muscle were it counts..under the hood,.. keep the bells and whistles...

All this, of coarse... after the LE AFCK.0 -
S90V and carbon fiber can't be a bad thing.
Whether I would buy one would depend on the execution. 3D contoured scales, mebbe even a bolster of some kind ala the recently announced 710-143. Yeah, mebbe then...0 -
I would rather have it with S110V....
Two concerns I have are that S90V is not as tough as D2 (a bit) and half as corrosion resistant to 440C.

I,d get a couple ........either way it came
S90V is a must though0 -
You guys need to knock this off. This is getting expensive.

Like the way the 710-1401 handled been improved over regular 710 so if you substitute CF for G-10 I'd buy one or more. Based on s90v in the 940-1 compared to M390 in the 810-1401, I'd give the nod to using M390 over s90v but buy either. Regards Bill 0 -
I would buy one. I also would like to see Benchmade make a 806 in the same configuration.

Now that's something I'd get behind all the way.0 -
I'd get one. 0 -
If it's half as nice as the 940-1 I'd be in for one! If it's as nice as the 940-1 then I'd probably have to get two!!! Pending the loan from my "boss" 0 -
Based on how well the 940-1 worked out, I'd be on a carbon fiber/S90V 710 like a shot. We could do a 2010s version of the arguments about Military vs. 710 that kept everyone busy back when the 710 was first introduced. If you want to play, you'll have to pick up one of the Military sprints in S90V, though.

Im still working on getting the Knifeworks M390 edition... but don't let that stop you.

I'd be in for one, assuming pricing comparable to 940-1. CF is good but would prefer shape of the scales to be the same as the regular 710; I'm personally not a fan of the extra sculpting on the -1401.
Also... could we get a 943-1, maybe? I really do prefer a clip point to a reverse tanto. Have a 940-1 but I'd carry a 943-1 a lot more.0 -

I agree. I find the -1401 slick and hard to keep a secure grip on. No such problems with the standard scale configuration.0 -

Hmmm, may be you can do the blade swap with regular 710?0
